Direction
Magneto-ception or direction is the ability to detect the direction one is facing based on the Earth’s magnetic field. Directional awareness is most commonly observed in birds and bees, but also present in humans. Magneto-tactic bacteria build miniature magnets inside them, so as to orient them relative to the Earth’s magnetic field.
Echo-location
Certain creatures can determine their orientation to other objects through interpretation of reflected sound (like sonar). Should we call this a separate sense? Blind people navigate by interpreting reflected sounds, such as their footsteps.
Electro-reception
This the ability to detect electric fields. Several species of fish have the capacity to sense changes in electric fields in their vicinity. Many species generate their own weak electric fields, and sense the pattern of field potentials over their body surface for use in local & distant social communication.
