The neurons make us think and\u00a0act.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Various studies suggest that the brain contains\u00a0\u2248100 billion glial cells and neurons, which form \u2248150 trillion connections. Glial cells provide the neurons with nourishment, physical support, and protection. They also dispose of waste materials generated when neurons die. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Each of the \u224810 trillion cells in our body has a membrane that surrounds its cytoplasm and a nucleus that contains its genes. Neurons also have small organelles that let them produce energy and proteins.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Neurons transmit energy &amp; information via vortices. For that they have two types of highly specialized extensions that distinguish them from other cells:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffd700;\"><strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Dendrites<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">, with their tree-like branching structure, gather and relay information to the neuron\u2019s cell body.<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffd700;\"><strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Axons<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">,\u00a0carry information from the neuron\u2019s cell body to other neurons, with which it makes connections called synapses. Their branches are like dendrites, and the buds on these branches are like dendritic spines.
