This word comes from the Greek syn (together) and haptein (join). <span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">Neurons can be connected in two very different ways<\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">by an <span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">electrical synapse<\/span>, in which the two cells touch and are connected by tiny holes, which lets the static electric impulse pass from neuron to neuron;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">by a <span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">chemical synapse<\/span>, where the two cells do not touch e.o. and the nerve impulse needs particular molecules to bridge the gap between them.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The vast majority of the\u00a0\u2248150 trillion synapses are chemical.
