It may occur suddenly as an accident, or gradually with repetitive spine-straining, as in a sedentary lifestyle. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">A <span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">herniated disc <\/span>means that a cushion between two spinal vertebrae is ruptured and pushed out of its boundary. The space for the spinal nerves and spinal cord is diminished and they may become compressed. As a result <a href=\"?p=507\"><span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">abnormal signals<\/span><\/a> may get passed from the compressed nerves to the brain or to the extremities, or signals may not get passed at all. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Common <span style=\"color: #ffd700;\">symptoms of a herniated disc<\/span> include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Electric shocks. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Compression in the neck region causes shocks to go down your arms. Nerve irritation can also be tested by examining reflexes. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Bowel or Bladder Problems<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"6px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">.
