Phoenix Crown

Fengguan is chinese traditional ceremonial headgear worn by noblewomen. These crowns were first developed during the Tang dynasty and Ming dynasty.

It would be worn either by a bride on her wedding day or by an aristocratic lady on formal occasions, as an indication of her wealth and status:

The crown is decorated with gold dragons. Phoenixes are made with feathers plucked from up to 10.000 life kingfishers for just one imperial crown:

Further, beaded pheasants, clouds, flowers, gemstones numbering 95-128, and pearls, ranging from 3500-5500:

The number of dragons, phoenixes and pheasants, and the presence or absence of certain ornaments, varied depending on the wearer’s royal rank:
