Is a Fool a Jester?

Addition and multiplication also symbolize other things. Put in human terms, addition is like friendship. People can stand shoulder to shoulder, become added together and thus form a bond. Their identity is not lost.

However, in marriage individual selves should gradually merge into the greater union of one. When we simply add the Fool to our lives, our lives remain exactly as they were. If we attempt to retain any part of our selves, then we will remain completely unaffected by the Fool, no matter what. If our selves become married to the Fool, then we will discover that they no longer exist, and that the only reality is the Fool.

If we just seek to add Christ to our already full lives, then our lives will remain completely unaffected. If we, however, multiply and marry our selves with Christ or God, then our selves will gradually cease to exist. We then will become Silly Sages or “Fools, for Christ’s sake” ? (1Cor 4:10)

Look at the idea of a court jester. In most literature, the court Fool or Jester acts as a sovereign being and spends half the time being completely silly, absurd, and hilarious, the other half being wise & telling the truth.

The Bible states that the wisdom of God is foolishness to this world. Perhaps, the Fool is the wisdom of the Divine, that divine spark in us.

If so, then the pathway of the Fool covers all stages we go through as we move from our normal mortal life into the eternal marriage with the Divine, seated deeply within us.

From this perspective, every human action is important. We witness much wrong, human suffering, painful hilarity, as well as much love, jolliness, hilarity, and ecstasy.

To us, this card means the pathway of awakening to the realization that all of us are true Stars. It is all part of the stellar and co(s)mical consciousness game we play.
