Two Hemispheres ?

The human brain comprises of many billions of cells, several billion of them are neurons linked to networks that give rise to emotion, intelligence, creativity, consciousness and memory.

The skull-brain is kind of symmetric. Its Left and Right hemispheres are connected by the corpus callosum, a thick white band of nerves deep within the brain, and other axonal bridges.

It allows the 2 hemispheres to communicate and coordinate their activities. The highly convoluted surface of the cerebral hemispheres – the cortex (Lat. bark) – is about 2 mm thick and has a total surface area of about 1½ m² (4’x4’).

The Neo-cortex developed over 3 million years. It constitutes 5/6 of the human brain. It is the outer portion of our brain and covers the 2 cerebral hemispheres. It is the structural and functional processing and decoding system between energy + info sensory input, and the brain’s output.

  • Lectins

What are lectins? Lectins are a type of protein that can bind to cell membranes. They are sugar-binding and become the “glyco” part of glycoconjugates on the membranes. Lectins offer a way for molecules to stick together without getting the immune system involved, which can influence cell-cell interaction. Lectins are abundant in raw legumes and…

  • GLIALS AND NEURONS

The human nervous system is composed of 2 types of cells: glial cells and neurons. The neurons make us think and act. Various studies suggest that the brain contains ≈100 billion glial cells and neurons, which form ≈150 trillion connections. Glial cells provide the neurons with nourishment, physical support, and protection. They also dispose of waste materials generated…
