Graphene-Bucky Balls?

Graphene

Every day, scientists are discovering new and fascinating facts about nature and its adaptation. Facts that existed long before modern science recognized them. Sacred Geometry may therefore be very useful in molecular biology.

Graphene -isolated by Geim and Novoselov in 2003- is a 2D (1-atom thick) layer of carbon atoms in a hexagonal format. It is the thinnest, lightest, and strongest material known. It is the best conductor of heat and electricity. It is completely flexible and transparent, yet so dense that even the smallest atom helium cannot pass through.

Bucky Balls

Researchers from Canada’s UWO, using NASA’s Spitzer infrared telescope, picked up signals from a star in the constellation of ARA, 6500 LY away. Analysis of the data led to the discovery of the largest molecules ever detected in space. These molecules are of the “3rd type of carbon”. The 1st is graphite and the 2nd is a diamond.

These large molecules – discovered in the 80’s – are known as fullerenes, named after Richard Buckminster Fuller. These ‘Bucky-balls‘ consist of 60 carbon atoms arranged as hexagons (hexa = Gr. six) surrounding pentagons (penta = Gr. five) in a sphere, like the geodesic structure of a soccer ball.
