Protein Peptide Bonds

An amino acid is a small molecule with an amine group (NH2) at one end and a carboxylic acid (COOH) group at the other end. The peptide bonds formed between these groups create chains, or polymers, of amino acids.

A peptide bond is a covalent bond that is formed between two molecules when the carboxyl group of one molecule reacts with the amino group of the another molecule, releasing a molecule of water.

This is a condensation reaction and usually occurs between amino acids. The resulting CO-NH bond is called a peptide bond, and the resulting molecule is an amide.

Proteins are complex chains of amino acids, linked together by peptide bonds.

Cracking sounds usually accompany the manipulation. In 1970, Dr. Sweat…
