SCIENCES

Science is a methodical study of nature that forms testable explanations + predictions.

The groupings listed are empirical sciences, which means the knowledge must be based on observable phenomena and capable of being tested for its validity by others working under the same conditions.

The hard sciences rely on a scientific method, quantifiable empirical data, and focus on accuracy and objectivity, so as to arrive at repeatable and clear conclusions. Performing controlled experiments is often an indication of hard science.

In soft sciences, there are often non-quantifiable variables that make it difficult to come to repeatable conclusions.

In reality, millions of things change every split second in every cell. Thus, nothing can ever be the same, except for dead objects. Reality can be observed from many angles.

Is science then far removed from reality? Does science only apply to dead objects and not to living organisms?

Science can be divided into many groups. They also interact with each other:

  • Formal Sciences

Formal sciences are conceptual systems that study formal systems, based on analysis, definitions, rules and laws, rather than actual facts. However, their methods hold in all possible conceivable worlds and are thus applied in empirical sciences and procedures, whose theories (general relativity, etc.) do not hold everywhere or even in our world: Logic (explicit analysis…
