Oscillating between
expansion and contraction

Oscillating between the extreme polarities of ‘desire and resist’ generates the rhythm essential for the transformation of trauma. In surrendering to our own needs to feel safe we apparently need to go to the threshold of death’s door.

Organisms have evolved wave-like processes to cure the effects of trauma: the ‘feeling’ process of expansion (desire) and contraction (resist). When these polarities are integrated in a gradual fashion, then the trauma will be safely healed.

Some people seem to have a vested interest in being ill, as they have formed some kind of attachment to its symptoms.

It is almost as if these symptoms become entities unto themselves through the power they give them. They need to release them from their minds and hearts along with the energy locked in their nervous system.
