An information fatique syndrome occurs when there is:

  • irritability and anger,
  • pain in the stomach and muscles,
  • an inability to make decisions or cope in other ways,
  • frequent feelings of helplessness and lethargy,
  • loss of energy and enthusiasm for leisure activities,
  • an inability to sleep at night and/or waking up with a sense of panic.

Education about the proper use and management of incoming information and knowledge is a powerful but underutilized tool in fostering good Attention Allocation (AA). Research showed that most people’s information gathering skills did not come from any formalized training.

A progressive organization needs to educate its members in determining what information and knowledge they truly need relative to their job or projects.

How about setting up an effective information-environment that includes important information on:

  • email,
  • paper workflow,
  • filing structures, 
  • archiving techniques,
  • Internet and Intranets.
