Colonization

Human Micro-Biome Cloud

All multi-cellular organisms are colonized all the time. Bacteria colonizing the colon, or existing on the skin. Neither of these would be considered infections.

Even the most virulent organism requires certain unusual circumstances to cause a compromising infection.

Some bacteria prevent colonization by pathogenic bacteria. Thus, they prevent infection and speed up wound healing.

The ways a host can be colonized by pathogens includes:

  • the pathogen’s means of access to the host’s external & internal micro-biome regions,
  • the intrinsic virulence (level of ability to cause harm) of a particular intruder,
  • the quantity or load of the initial remedy taken in,
  • the immune status of the host being colonized.

  • The Joy Factor

“Count your blessings” How do experts predict disaster? The insurance industry uses a mathematical formula called the hazard function. This function yields, through frequency counts of disastrous events and the use of basic calculus and probability theory, the likelihood that a specified ‘hazard’ will happen in the very next instant. This could be a fire,…
