BIS = Freeze?

The situation is quite different for the third circuit, the Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS). It is associated with the hippocampus, the amygdala, and the basal nuclei. It receives inputs from the prefrontal cortex.

The BIS is activated when both fight and flight seem impossible and the only remaining behavioral option is to surrender, submit passively. The pathological consequences of this option have provided an understanding of how destructive chronic stress can be to people’s health.

To act effectively, we need a certain amount of information about the world. If we have not acquired enough information from our past experiences, or if we cannot access this information, we may be stuck and not know how to act.

That is why some people freeze up when they have to deal with a computer, or when they are confronted with death.

Too much information can have the same effect, if we don’t know how to organize all this knowledge properly. Another source of No Action is our imagination. When we imagine a negative scenario, like the prospect of rejection, we end up doing nothing.

Release of stuck energy & emotion in body & brain can be done with practicing the c2C as soon as a symptom announces itself via thought and/or an associated sensation.
